LOWER KITLEIGH COTTAGE:

The cottage is situated just over the Devon border in North Cornwall. It is three miles inland, with sea views from the bedrooms. The entire coast land is National trust property and is absolutely unspoilt with high cliffs and access to remote coves and bird colonies: wild flowers and butterflies abound. This is the place for a quiet holiday in peaceful surroundings. The Cornish coast walk allows walks all along this magnificent coastline. Whilst this listed 17th century farmhouse has been restored and refurbished by the architect owner, care has been taken to retain all its period character and charm. The cottage itself is a typical Cornish cob farmhouse. It stands in its own grassy south-facing courtyard surrounded by deep country. A short walk away is a working farm and in one of the two other cottages in this tiny hamlet live Mr and Mrs Martyn who keep the key and an eye on the cottage, and sometimes baby sit. Further on, down a very quiet country lane, is the local village of Week St Mary. there you will find a grocer/post office, and a pub. Other shopping is done in Bude - an old fashioned seaside town 6 miles away - Holsworthy is 8 miles and Launceston 12 miles, both pretty hill towns.

In the cottage: downstairs, there is a slate flagged living/dining area running the length of the house with a big inglenook fireplace and all the firewood needed. The rooms are furnished in comfy unfussy antique furniture. There are books and a colour TV.

The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, oven and a double sink, and is fully equipped. There is a bathroom, a washer/tumbler dryer and ample hot water on tap at all times. All the heating and hot water is included in the price.

The cottage offers beds for seven and a cot. There are two very large bedrooms and one smaller. the largest has beams and enough charm for a honeymoon with a double brass bed, painted furniture and spectacular views to the distant sea. The remaining rooms have single beds with duvets. Each bed has a duvet and pillows. You need to bring bed linen and towels.

Outside is a secluded garden of mown grass, complete with picnic table. There is night storage heating throughout, and the log fire ensures a comfortable holiday all year round. There is ample off-lane parking in the drive.

The cottage is ideally placed for visits to Tintagel, Boscastle, Cloverlly, Port Isaac and the Cornish moors where the old tin mines can be found. There is good surfing at Widemouth and also excellent opportunities for riding, golf, walking and fishing. Nearby are country pubs and some good restuarants.

Prices are varied according to season. A non-returnable deposit of £100 secures your booking, with the balance paid three weeks before your holiday, when all directions will be sent to you.
